What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?
The African tradition is one that I have not been able to uphold. At times, I find myself not faulting my inability to keep up with it, but there are moments when I do. Tradition is a powerful element that defines an individual in ways that words cannot express. It holds a deeper meaning in one’s life and cannot be replaced by anything else.
Regrettably, I never had the opportunity to learn or be familiar with my African tradition. My parents never introduced it to me. As a result, all I know is the contemporary way of life that surrounds me. I often wonder why I have been living a modern lifestyle while abandoning the beautiful heritage of my ancestors. However, I have come to terms with the reality of my situation and have accepted that it is what it is. I have made peace with myself and let bygones be bygones.

I think many of us have lost those ways in the name of: faster, better, and more modern and yet how many are truly happier?

Yes, you are very correct Mike, and that pains the most sometimes and I don’t really think there are those who are truly happy, and even if there are, I think they are few.
