The Ten Commandments bestowed upon us by the Almighty are divine and complete. They provide us with a moral compass to guide our lives and establish a righteous relationship with God and one another.
However, allow me to offer a perspective. If I were to reflect upon the teachings of the Scriptures and consider an additional principle, it would be this: “Love thyself with humility.”
While the commandments emphasize our love for God and our love for others, it is crucial to remember the importance of self-love as well. Not in a selfish or prideful manner, but in a way that acknowledges the inherent worth and dignity bestowed upon us by our Creator.
Loving oneself with humility means recognizing that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, created in the image of God, and deserving of respect and care. It involves practicing self-compassion, forgiving our own shortcomings, and striving for personal growth and transformation.
When we love ourselves with humility, we are better equipped to love and serve others. It becomes a foundation upon which we can build healthy relationships, seek justice, and fulfill the commandments of loving God and our neighbors as ourselves.
